ideas

Dermot takes his inspiration from a variety of sources. He is often influenced by periods of art history and architecture. He combines his aesthetic sensitivity with his technical knowledge of landscaping to bring about a contemporary approach to the client's brief. His designs use the hard landscaping features and forms to define the structural function of the space. The planting, naturalistic or architectural, herbaceous or evergreen is used along side the hard landscape to create the overall mood, rhythm and tension of the space.

Dermot responds to the brief with sketches, mood boards and technical drawings. This variety of visual tools communicate his ideas so the client can visualise the overall spirit of the design and envisioned space. The technical drawings translate these ideas into practical plans which either his own team or the clients' subcontractors can utilise to realise the finished garden.

Once commissioned, briefed and designed, a garden under construction is always an exciting process. On the whole it is stripped of everything that is unwanted. From the layout plan the shapes and foundations of the hard landscape are marked. Then the real work can begin. With great care and client consultation, the site and raw materials are transformed into the realised design and our combine vision.
